Happy When it Rains

I have an enormous crush on these sweet little umbrellas from Fred Flare, perfect for a day like today. Aren’t they cute? They remind me of a wooden-handled umbrella in the shape of a duck that I won at a bingo game when I was in elementary school. It had a pink canopy and I loved it. And then I lost it! So sad. These little fashiony things would be the perfect replacement and really, they make me feel like a kid again just looking at them. Check out those matchy rain boots and how the actual umbrella part looks like a cinched trench when it’s closed. I’m particularly enamored of the elegant white version (it would probably get un-elegantly dirty in no time though) but I equally adore the red and pastel blue too.

Just received this teaser (and tease it does…) for the District Sample Sale on March 4. Here it is in entirety except for a bunch of the links….I’m just too tired today:

I.) Will you win a $1,000 Boutique Shopping Spree?
II.) Get in Haute Pursuit of Fabulous Loot at the first ever DSS Silent Auction!
III.) Your spring and summer shopping plan: Mapped out and ready to go
IV.) The big question answered: What’s in this year’s VIP goodie bag?
V.) 27+ Dresses: Couture Eveningwear at 80% off!
VI.) Your wish: $30 DVF wraps. Their wish: notebooks, blankets and snack bars.
*****************************
I.) The $1,000 DSS Boutique Shopping Raffle! That’s right, a $10 ticket at the DSS could net you a thou to spend! Every participating boutique at this year’s District Sample Sale has donated gift certificates valued between $50-$200, and one grand prize winner will take them all! Will you be spending $200 at Wink? Look for the famous DSS Raffle Boys and cross those well-manicured fingers!

II.) Haute Pursuit: the first-ever silent auction at the DSS features 30+ fabulously fashionable items on the block, from spa treatments at Hela to designer bags from Intermix to nights on the town (and even an actual Lipstick Jungle!). Bidding runs from 5:30 – 8:30, and every penny helps us change the lives of 300+ at risk children in DC. Going once..going twice…see the entire list here.

III.) Cure the Post-DSS Blues! Look for our complete trunk show and event guide for spring/summer 2008 in the District Sample Sale program (right across from the ad from our sponsor, Bethesda Row). You’ll find 40 fashion events to get you through ’til the next DSS (September 9!).

IV.) Bag This: still waffling on whether to get a Benefactress Ticket? Well, here’s a bit of news: in addition to getting first dibs on the merch with your bonus hour of shopping, first look at the DSS Silent Auction (and first martini at the bar!), here’s just a sampling of who you’ll find in the famous paperless (product only!) DSS VIP bag, currently valued at $132: National Jean Company * We One You Two * DKG Design * Whishbody * Snow Queen Vodka * DC Scout * one80 Salon/Phyto * Vitalia Med Spa * Cibu International * Nioxin * Apres Peau * Red Bull * Yelp * and more!

V.) DSS Goes High Fashion: you’ve always found fabulous designer bargains at the DSS. Now we take it up a notch in the Couture Evening Wear Suite on the Mezzanine Level! Harriet Kassman will be bringing 40 of their amazing evening gowns and selling them for one night only at 80% off. Then head downstairs, and be sure to visit our other new exhibitors, Sangaree and Setchi ecoBoutique!

VI.) We All Have Wish Lists: and the Martha’s Table Summer Camp Wish List is the best of them all. As we strive to have a paper-free VIP bag (save for our charity), it’s easy to find the Wish List donor form, and to make a wish come true! Stop by the Martha’s Table Summer Camp booth to learn more about how you can continue helping when the DSS ends. Because nothing goes with your new glam look like the glow of philanthropy.

Thanks for your time! We’ll see you on the 4th!

Oscar night red carpet looks! It happened in Hollywood and it happened here, at the Oscar Night party at Posh, benefiting the DC Chapter of the Red Cross. Men looked dapper in tuxedos (plus the one guy in a brown suede jacket -?!) and women wore everything from long sparkly gowns to short cocktail styles, and in general everyone looked really glamorous. I was a little underwhelmed by the looks on the “real” red carpet (Cameron, you couldn’t bother to do your hair?!), though a lot of ladies did look very beautiful. I loved ladies in red Katherine Heigl and Anne Hathaway as well as Hilary Swank, Penelope Cruz and Jennifer Garner). All of it pretty, but relatively safe.

Highlights from DC’s red carpet: having my picture taken with “Angelina Jolie,” the screaming “paparazzi” and “fans” asking for autographs installed along the red carpet entrance, Ebong Eka’s skinny tie look (above), Andrea Rodgers dripping in loaned diamonds from Mervis, the excuse to stare at everyone in attendance and talk fashion shop with friend (and fellow vintage lover) Roll Call columnist Emily Heil, endless sparkling wine and my one-shoulder tiered ruffle vintage dress from The Remix that I found the day before. So of course I was pleased to see so many one-shoulder gowns on the red carpet…

UPDATE: Check out the amazing photos photographer Joseph Allen just posted!
